CHRISTMAS 2011
******************
XMAS MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRESIDENT
Well here we are celebrating Christmas and wondering where 2011 went!
Our new Committee have met to plan 2012 and we have welcomed 3 new Committee members to our midst – Cathy Linklater, Dorothy Stannard and Suellen Mansour.
Special thanks to our Committee for 2011 and I want to pay particular tribute to our retiring Committee members,
Vice Captain, Leigh Wolany, Secretary, Terry Weir and Committee member, Yvonne Lord.
I am particularly sad to lose their collective talents but know that they will be ably replaced.
Whilst it is traditional that we thank retiring members at the Christmas Lunch, I want to pay a small homage here to these three.
Leigh has held the role of Vice Captain for the past 3 years and prior to that as Captain.
Nothing is too much trouble for Leigh (unless you get her on a grumpy day!) and every Wednesday she sets up for the next day’s play (which is continuing).
Yvonne has been a wonderful stalwart for the Committee, assisting Anne Casley with trophies and the organisation of the Christmas raffles,
together with assistance on any matter asked of her. And to my (I think of her as “mine”) wonderful Secretary, Terry,
I don’t know how I would have coped especially in the initial months of my Presidency without her.
Reminders, jobs quietly and efficiently done and with never any fuss.
Next year in March we will again hold our Guest Day and we rely on your support to again fill the course
(which is looking really splendid at this time) with visitors.
And then we are off on our Getaway to Rosebud so don’t forget to pay your deposit to either Susie Waite or Cathy Linklater.
Information forms are available in the Clubhouse.
A week ago some of us attended the VWGL Presentation Dinner at Southern Golf Club to receive the Pennant Runners-up flag for our B division team.
Once again Leigh Wolany our Pennant Captain will be in charge of putting together a team for next year and we know Leigh will be more than determined
to better this year’s performance.
We didn’t win or lose the Brighton Shield this year as for the first time in the history of the event it was a drawn event.
After some discussion the Presidents and Captains decided to leave it that way so we will both share the Shield for 6 months each.
Your new syllabus will arrive in the New Year. Please diarise your Table Duty and should you be unable to do your specified duty day
arrange to swap with another member. This coming year we hope to have an emergency ‘pool’ to augment the Roster as well.
Whilst today marks the end of our competition year, Summer Golf will commence on 8th December, so roll up (no time sheets) and play 9 holes
(some elect to play 18) until Opening Day next year. Nola Reade is the Summer Golf boss with an assortment of assistants
and our Captains and Handicappers will enjoy the rest.
I wish you and your families joy at Christmas. For some reason this year seems to have seen quite a bit of ill health
for many of us or our families so hopefully 2012 will bring good health for you and your loved ones. Wishing you good golf in 2012.

CAPTAIN'S REPORT
This is my second year as Captain of Nepean Women’s Golf Club and we had good results in both the Pennant and the Brighton Shield.
The overall participation has improved and we have a number of new members playing regularly.
As we experienced last year there has been much change but we all continue to adapt.
The Nepean Club culture continues to be rewarding and embrace all who participate.
Congratulations to all the trophy winners for the year.
My thanks to Penny and Sue for their continued work as the Handicappers along with Trophy ladies Annie and Yvonne,
they make the job of putting together and presenting the results simple.
Special thanks to Sandra Ritchie who is always available to provide guidance on rules,
Maryanne and the entire committee for their support throughout the year and Nola and Neredah for running Summer Golf.
We welcome Raylene as the new Vice Captain and I am sure she will do a fabulous job.
I would like to close by thanking and acknowledging Leigh for her continued contribution to the club.
Leigh is a great support in the day to day preparing and running of the competitions and of course also the Pennant Captain.

HANDICAPPER’S REPORT
Handicap System Adjustments
The powers that be now think they have it right … we have had 2 major handicap adjustments in the last 2 years.
Surprisingly, overall the average difference for Nepean was an increase of 0.6 handicap strokes.
In April 2010 we averaged an increase of 2.4 and in September 2011 we averaged a decrease of 1.8. Now it’s just up to us we hope.
Broken Handicaps for 2011
Taking into account that the September adjustment was, on average, a decrease of 1.8, 52% of Nepean girls had a real handicap drop this year –
i.e 1.9 or more. In fact there were some really impressive reductions – notably 6 strokes or more from the following members.
Lyn Mortimer
Jenny Mealor
Yasemin Ziada
Margaret Clemens
Alison Moran
Sue McEniry
Shirley Bell
Vicki King
Val Lim
Jill Natoli
Carole Schmoll
Ann Thomas
Joy Turnbull
Very impressive statistics!

A NOTE FROM THE TREASURER
It is a pleasure to belong to NWGC and be part of the committee which keeps everything running smoothly.
This year we introduced Direct Deposit to the NWGC account, for payment of your annual subscriptions.
Thank you to all who took advantage of this payment method, as it does assist in reducing the weekly work of the Treasurer, especially around October.
Our Club is in a sound financial position, as reported at the AGM, so we are able to keep these festive gatherings at a reasonable cost to you all.
Our annual Christmas Trading Table allows us to share our special homemade goods with other members.
Please take the opportunity to pick up a Christmas gift for someone on your list!
I would like to wish you all happy Christmas and New Year.
Good luck with your golf in 2012, a very special year, as we lead up to our 60th celebrations! Cheers.

TROPHIES REPORT
Thank you to everyone who so generously donated (financially or with their time) to our club over the last year.
There have been several positive comments regarding the trophies awarded at our recent AGM and we are always interested in hearing your
suggestions for future prizes. Sincere thanks to Yvonne Lord for her involvement as a “trophy girl” on the committee over the last 2 years
and welcome to Suellen Mansour who is now replacing her.
For new members, who may not be aware of what is awarded, the main competitions (and Donors) are listed in the annual syllabus
but there are also monthly prizes presented on the first Thursday of each month.
There is a monthly medalist, prizes awarded for A, B and C grade winners, A, B and C grade longest drives, best putts,
nearest the pin and 9 hole competition prizes are also awarded.
We look forward to writing YOUR name on a prize card soon!

Meredith Ramadan & Raylene Grapsas
VWGL Delegates
LIFE MEMBER
At this year’s AGM the members voted unanimously to admit Penny Price as a Life Member of Nepean.
Penny was totally surprised by her nomination and extremely proud to have been given this great honor.
She joins a list of 12 Nepean Life Members and her name has been added to the Life Members Board in our clubrooms. 7 of our Life Members
regularly attend club functions and medal days and it is always great to see them as they have been an integral part of the fabric of the Nepean
Women’s Golf Club.
Penny truly loves Nepean and it’s members. Her devotion to the club is seen in the many and varied tasks and responsibilities she has taken on
over her 22 years as a member. All of this is very much appreciated by Nepean and we welcome Penny as our newest and youngest Life Member!!
NEPEAN CLUB SHIRTS
With the warmer weather approaching, please consider purchasing a new Nepean short sleeve shirt.
They wash well, fit great and look fantastic out on the course, especially on Medal Day when everyone is wearing one.
The cost is $35.00, this is a great bargain as they are $69.00 in many golf shops.
Please see a Committee Memer to try one on in your size!
